“I don’t like real stuff. I like stuff that looks real but it’s not”, says Marco Kinloch, explaining some of the inspiration behind Roi du Lac, a new line of home decor and ready to wear that he and his wife, Antea Brugnoni Alliata, launched in November 2017. Both the name of the company and Kinloch’s surname translate to “king of the lake”, and the collection features over 50 colourful patterns - including a chinoiserie design that is one of the aforementioned items. It’s meant to look like it’s from an 18th-century European castle but has modern winks, such as giants peacocks - all sketched by hand by Marco Kinloch himself. Patterns are then used on everything from wallpaper to tabletops, scarves and ready-to-wear.
